Brewers rally past Dodgers 6-4 to sweep NLCS and win NL pennant
The Brewers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Dodgers 6-4 in Game 4, completing an NLCS sweep and reaching their first World Series since 1982.
The Milwaukee Brewers are going to the World Series. They came back from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 15. The win completed a four-game sweep and sent Milwaukee to its first World Series since 1982.
How Game 4 turned
The game started at 8 p.m. ET on FS1. Shane Drohan started for Milwaukee and Tyler Glasnow for Los Angeles.
The Dodgers scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the second inning, according to the MLB Stats API play-by-play. Andy Pages singled to center to score Kyle Tucker. Shohei Ohtani followed with a home run to right-center that drove in Teoscar Hernández and Pages.
Milwaukee scored the next six runs:
- Fourth inning: Jake Bauers hit a ground-rule double to right, scoring Brice Turang and William Contreras (4-2).
- Fifth inning: David Hamilton singled to center to score Sal Frelick. Bauers then walked with the bases loaded, scoring Hamilton and tying the game 4-4.
- Sixth inning: Garrett Mitchell homered to center for a 5-4 lead.
- Ninth inning: Hamilton homered to right-center for a 6-4 lead.
Milwaukee won on five hits to Los Angeles' eight. The Brewers made one error and the Dodgers none. JoJo Romero got the win, Tanner Scott took the loss and Aaron Ashby earned the save.
How Milwaukee got here
The Brewers won the first two games at home: 2-1 on Oct. 11 and 7-4 on Oct. 12. They took Game 3 6-2 in Los Angeles on Oct. 14. DL Hall got the win and Blake Snell took the loss. In that game, Jackson Chourio led off with a home run, and Bauers and Mitchell homered off Snell in the seventh inning, according to wire and preview coverage.
Milwaukee went 103-59 in the regular season, the best record in the National League. Los Angeles went 100-62, second best.
What it means
The pennant is Milwaukee's first since 1982, when the Brewers lost the World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals. The sweep also ends the Dodgers' bid for a third consecutive championship. The MLB Stats API lists the series as over, with Milwaukee winning 4-0.
