FBI New Haven post wrongly said 'Election day is Wednesday'; Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3
The FBI field office's X post promoting an election-security interview had the wrong day. It has since been deleted. Polls in Connecticut are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
As of 7:55 a.m. ET, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026
Election Day is today, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, not Wednesday. A post from the FBI New Haven field office's official X account got the day wrong.
The post went up at 4 p.m. ET Monday. It read: "Election day is Wednesday and the #FBI is working around the clock to ensure the midterms are safe." It went on to promote a radio interview with Special Agent in Charge P. J. O'Brien and Public Affairs Specialist Christine Jeltema about "how the FBI protects the integrity of elections, including threats, voter intimidation, and ballot fraud," according to the text preserved by the fact-checking site Lead Stories.
The wording appears to be a mistake in a post meant to promote an interview. The FBI has not explained it publicly.
By early Tuesday, the post had been deleted. When GROKsiNEWS.com checked at about 6:28 a.m. ET, X showed the notice "This Post was deleted by the Post author." No correction or replacement post appeared on the account at that time. The FBI's New Haven office has not commented publicly. Lead Stories said it asked the office for comment and had not received a reply.
Before it was deleted, many users replied to point out the error, and several posted the correct date.
The correct date
Federal law sets Election Day for Congress as "the Tuesday next after the 1st Monday in November, in every even numbered year" (2 U.S.C. 7). In 2026, that is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
In Connecticut, polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Connecticut Secretary of the State. Any voter in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote. The state also offers Election Day registration at each town's designated location.
Voters elsewhere can check their own polling hours and location with their state or local election office.
