GM to move its stock listing to Nasdaq from the NYSE on Nov. 17

General Motors said its shares are expected to trade on the New York Stock Exchange through Nov. 16 and begin trading on Nasdaq on Nov. 17, keeping the "GM" ticker. The company said shareholders do not need to take any action.

As of 4:58 p.m. ET, Oct. 27, 2026

General Motors said Tuesday that it will transfer the listing of its common stock to the Nasdaq Global Select Market from the New York Stock Exchange.

The stock is expected to stay listed on the NYSE under the ticker "GM" through the market close on Nov. 16, and the company expects to begin trading as a Nasdaq-listed company on Nov. 17, GM said in a release issued at 6:30 a.m. ET. The ticker will remain "GM" after the transfer.

"GM's customer-focused, technology-driven strategy is creating value for our stockholders, making Nasdaq a natural home for our listing as we grow," GM Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said in the release. "We're grateful for our long-standing partnership with the New York Stock Exchange and its remarkable legacy."

No action is required by existing stockholders because of the transfer, the company said.

The move is a notable loss for the NYSE, where GM first listed in 1911, CNBC's Michael Wayland reported. The current GM relisted on the exchange in 2010 after the old company's government-backed bankruptcy, CNBC noted.

GM follows companies including Walmart, DoorDash and Palantir Technologies that have moved to Nasdaq from the NYSE in recent years, and Hilton Worldwide Holdings announced plans last week to make the same switch, CNBC reported. The decision comes a week after GM held a technology-focused event where executives laid out its plans for artificial intelligence and self-driving technology, according to CNBC.

What is not known

GM's release does not say what led to the decision beyond Jacobson's statement and potential eligibility for the Nasdaq-100 index, or whether it will cost or save the company money in listing fees. Neither GM nor Nasdaq has said whether any further steps tied to the transfer are planned.
