Google Cloud outage hits London region; Google blames "power event," Revolut reports service disruption

Google says a "power event" caused an outage in its europe-west2-b zone in London and that the power event "is mitigated," with services expected to recover in stages. The incident began at 2:08 a.m. ET and had not been marked resolved as of Google's 7:58 a.m. ET update, which said services were recovering.

Update (Oct. 20, 2026, 8:01 a.m. ET): This story has been updated with Google's 7:58 a.m. ET status update, which said services were recovering.

Google Cloud says multiple services in its London region have been having problems. The company says the trouble began at 11:08 p.m. Pacific time Monday, which is 2:08 a.m. ET Tuesday.

"Google Cloud services are unavailable in europe-west2-b zone; some services in europe-west2 region may experience elevated errors and intermittent network issues," Google said on its Cloud Service Health page. The incident lists 38 affected products, including Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Cloud Spanner, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run and Cloud Load Balancing. It names London (europe-west2) as the affected location.

"Due to a power event we had suffered an outage within europe-west2-b zone. The power event is mitigated," Google said in an update posted at 7:12 a.m. ET. "Partial mitigation to infrastructure services will be observed within the next 30 minutes and the remaining services will be mitigated there after," the company said. In its next update, posted at 7:58 a.m. ET, Google said: "We are seeing the recovery of services and are prioritizing the recovery of existing workloads." It said customers "may not be able to yet create new workloads" and that full recovery of existing workloads "should be completed, tentatively by Tuesday, 2026-10-20 06:00," without giving a time zone for that estimate. Google said its next update would come by 6 a.m. Pacific time, which is 9 a.m. ET. The incident had not been marked resolved as of the 7:58 a.m. update. Google suggested that customers who can move affected workloads to another zone or region try doing so.

Revolut, the digital bank, said at 3:54 a.m. ET that it was "experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services." "We can confirm that all our customers' money and data are safe," the company said on X. It said it had been working to fix the problem since it was identified that morning. Revolut's post does not mention Google or say what caused the disruption.

Sky News reported that the Google Cloud issues appear to be affecting banks and delivery services. Sky listed Revolut, HSBC and Royal Mail among the services where users were reporting problems on the outage-tracking site Downdetector, but said it was "not yet clear whether these issues are related to the problem." BBC News reported that users of Revolut had been reporting outages as Google said multiple Cloud services were suffering network failures.
