OpenAI's models are coming to Google Cloud

Google Cloud customers will be able to buy OpenAI's frontier models and Codex through the Google Cloud Marketplace and count the purchases against existing spending commitments, OpenAI said.

As of 3:10 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026

OpenAI and Google Cloud are partnering to bring OpenAI's frontier models and Codex agentic workflows into Google Cloud's Model Garden, OpenAI said Wednesday, with general availability planned in the coming weeks.

Google Cloud customers will be able to purchase OpenAI frontier models through the model garden, transacted through the Google Cloud Marketplace, and enterprises with Google Cloud spend commitments will be able to draw down those commitments for the purchases, according to OpenAI's announcement.

OpenAI models will also soon be available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent, the company said.

What the companies said

"This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building, giving them even more choice in how they use frontier AI as we grow the agentic ecosystem together," OpenAI President and co-founder Greg Brockman said in the announcement.

"We are focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for any given job, helping to deliver optimal quality and lower costs," Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said.

OpenAI's announcement ends: "Microsoft remains OpenAI's primary cloud partner."

All three major clouds

The move puts OpenAI's models on all three of the top cloud infrastructure providers, CNBC reported, describing it as a "further expansion beyond Microsoft." CNBC noted that Amazon started hosting OpenAI models in April, after Microsoft's exclusivity ended.

Axios reported that the agreement offers OpenAI another way to reach corporate customers without requiring them to establish a separate relationship with the ChatGPT maker, while Google will be selling a competitor's models alongside its own Gemini offerings.

"For Google, I read the deal as confidence, because Gemini now has to win those customers with OpenAI sitting right next to it," Mike Leone, vice president and analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, told Axios.

CNBC noted that Google and OpenAI previously partnered last year, when OpenAI said it was using Google's cloud to run ChatGPT and its application programming interface.
