Russia launches 193 drones at Ukraine overnight; guided bombs kill 1 in Izium

Ukraine's air force said 154 of the drones were shot down or jammed. Officials in the Kharkiv and Odesa regions reported injuries, and the national grid operator imposed emergency power cuts in some regions.

As of 8:41 a.m. ET, Monday, Nov. 2, 2026

Russia attacked Ukraine with 193 drones overnight into Monday, and Ukrainian air defenses shot down or jammed 154 of them, Ukraine's air force said. Hours later, a guided-bomb strike on the eastern city of Izium killed one person, local officials said.

The air force said the attack began at 6 p.m. Sunday Kyiv time (11 a.m. ET) and involved Shahed-type attack drones, 75 of them jet-powered, along with Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoys. It said they were launched from the directions of the Russian cities of Oryol, Kursk and Bryansk, from occupied Donetsk and from Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea.

According to the air force's preliminary tally as of 8 a.m. Kyiv time (1 a.m. ET), drones hit 26 locations and debris from downed drones fell at nine more. More than six drones were still in the air at that time, it said.

Guided bombs hit Izium

Russian forces struck Izium, in the Kharkiv region, with a series of guided aerial bombs between 8:50 and 9:10 a.m. Kyiv time (1:50 to 2:10 a.m. ET), the city's military administration said. It said one civilian was killed and 15 people were receiving medical care.

One bomb hit a five-story apartment building, destroying its first three floors and heavily damaging five neighboring apartment buildings, the administration said. Another hit a four-story residential building in the city center, damaging six more apartment buildings. Two bombs that struck the ground in the Honcharivka area damaged about 20 private homes and two shops, and several cars were destroyed or damaged by fire, it said.

Kharkiv regional Gov. Oleh Syniehubov first reported one person killed and at least three hurt. In a later update, he put the number of injured at 11, including an 11-year-old boy treated for acute stress. Officials did not identify the person who was killed.

The city administration said later Monday that two water pumping stations had stopped working because of a lack of electricity and that Izium would receive water on a schedule until power is restored.

Injuries in Kharkiv and Odesa regions

Across the Kharkiv region, Syniehubov said 19 people, including a child, were hurt in Russian attacks on 11 settlements over the previous day. In the village of Vashyshcheve, he said, two people were wounded and nine others, including a 3-year-old girl, suffered acute stress reactions.

On Monday morning, a Russian drone attack on the city of Chuhuiv injured five people, Syniehubov said. Four women suffered blast injuries and were hospitalized in moderate condition, he said.

In the Odesa region, the regional military administration said five people were injured in what it called a massive Russian attack. It said strikes damaged warehouses, administrative buildings and private homes, destroyed a bakery building and hit an energy facility of DTEK Odesa Grids. Power had been restored to some customers by morning, and repair work was continuing, the administration said.

Emergency power cuts

Ukrenergo, the national grid operator, said early Monday that it had introduced emergency power outages in some regions because of a difficult situation in the power system caused by Russian attacks, suspending previously published outage schedules there.

In a later update, Ukrenergo said new outages were recorded Monday morning in the Vinnytsia, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Rivne, Odesa and Kharkiv regions. It said some regions would have hourly outages for all consumers and power limits for industry through the end of the day, and asked people to limit use of high-power appliances from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. local time.

Russian claim; a larger barrage the night before

Russia's Defense Ministry said Monday that it had shot down 212 Ukrainian drones overnight, The Associated Press reported. GROKsiNEWS.com could not independently verify figures from either side.

The overnight attack followed a larger one the night before. Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 433 drones overnight into Sunday, of which 371 were destroyed or suppressed, the AP reported. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that hundreds of thousands of families had been left without power overnight.

"The intensity of the strikes is extremely high, and the Russians are trying to take maximum advantage of the shortage of ballistic missile interceptors," Zelenskyy said in a post on X, according to the AP.
