Federal agents searched a Beverly Hills, California, home early Tuesday as part of an investigation into former Rep. Eric Swalwell, who resigned from Congress in April after sexual misconduct allegations, two people familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press. CNN separately reported the search, citing two people familiar with the probe.

AP and CNN, citing anonymous sources, have identified the homeowner as a wealthy developer and former Swalwell donor. Neither the FBI nor any on-record official has publicly named the homeowner, so GROKsiNEWS.com is not naming them. Swalwell spent time at the home before resigning from office, AP reported. The homeowner has not been accused of wrongdoing in the Swalwell investigation.

"Early this morning the FBI conducted an operation in the Los Angeles region related to an ongoing criminal investigation. We have no further comment," FBI spokesperson Lourdes Arocho said when asked about the search, according to AP. The FBI's statement did not name Swalwell or the address. NBC Los Angeles reported that an FBI spokesperson confirmed agents were executing a search warrant that remains under seal.

Swalwell, a California Democrat, has denied criminal wrongdoing, AP reported. No charges against him have been announced. AP said it left messages seeking comment with Swalwell's lawyer and with a lawyer who has represented the homeowner in another matter; CNN said it had reached out to Swalwell's lawyer and had tried to reach the homeowner and a representative.

Background

Swalwell resigned from Congress and ended his campaign for California governor in April after the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN reported allegations of sexual misconduct, including a former staffer's allegation that he raped her, according to AP and CNN. He has denied the allegations, CNN reported.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department opened criminal investigations after the reports, CNN reported. In August, federal agents seized electronic devices from Swalwell at San Francisco's airport and searched his Washington home, AP reported.

What is not known

The FBI has not said what agents were looking for or whether anything was seized, and the warrant remains sealed, according to NBC Los Angeles. The link between the home and the Swalwell investigation comes from anonymous sources cited by AP and CNN; neither the FBI nor the Justice Department has publicly connected the search to Swalwell. Swalwell's lawyer and the homeowner had not publicly commented as of publication.
