President Donald Trump pointed to the unrest in France as an argument against Democrats on Monday at a rally in Park City, Kan., for Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, Reuters reported.

Trump told the crowd that the fires in France show what Democrats want to do to the United States, Reuters reported.

Reuters described the France comparison as a new addition to Trump's stump speech and reported that he provided no evidence. France has seen some of its worst unrest in years in recent days, as large protests over the cost of living and underfunded public services turned into riots and looting, Reuters reported.

Marshall, a first-term senator, is in a close race with Democratic candidate Adam Hamilton, a Methodist megachurch pastor, in the Nov. 3 midterm elections, according to Reuters. Kansas has not elected a Democrat to the US Senate in 94 years, Reuters reported.
