Ugandan citizens returning to the country with a history of travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo will be quarantined for 21 days, Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi said on Sunday, Reuters reported.
Uganda is tightening Ebola precautions even as it says it remains Ebola-free, according to Reuters. The ministry has intensified traveller screening at Entebbe International Airport and all land border crossings, Baryomunsi said. "All travellers intending to enter Uganda by air, land or water must complete the passenger locator form," he said, Reuters reported.
Baryomunsi said all 60 contacts linked to a Kenyan Ebola case had completed their 21-day monitoring period and been discharged, according to Reuters. The contacts were traced across points of entry and exit, hotels and transport operators linked to travellers' movements through Uganda, the agency reported.
Uganda has been investigating a Nigerian Ebola case involving a woman who had travelled from Uganda, Reuters reported. Officials said they were reviewing genomic sequencing, travel information, interactions and movements with Nigerian authorities and international partners, according to the agency.
The Uganda Ministry of Health posted Sunday that Baryomunsi was briefing on national Ebola preparedness and response efforts.
What is not known
Uganda has not reported a confirmed Ebola case in this outbreak cycle in the material reviewed for this report. Reuters did not detail when the 21-day quarantine takes effect or how it will be enforced for citizens already in transit.
