San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans was ruled out of Monday night's game against the Washington Commanders with what coach Kyle Shanahan and The Associated Press described as a flare-up of Achilles tendinitis.

"Mike Evans (achilles) is out for the remainder of the game," the 49ers said in an injury update posted on X at 10:01 p.m. ET.

Evans had three catches for 94 yards in the first half before leaving the game after a 16-yard catch late in the second quarter, The Associated Press reported. He limped off the field and was seen trying to stretch out his lower leg in the tunnel before going back to the locker room, according to AP. He did not return for the second half.

During the game, there was no immediate word on the severity of the injury, AP reported at the time.

The 49ers won the game 23-17 and improved to 6-0, the NFL said.

Speaking to reporters after the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said of Evans, "We'll see how he feels this week." Asked whether Evans would need any more testing, Shanahan said, "I don't believe so."

Shanahan said he did not think the injury was a long-term problem and that he hoped Evans would recover during the week and be able to play next week. If Evans cannot play, the rest of the group will have to step up, and the team hopes to have him healed after its bye week, Shanahan said.

The 49ers next play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Oct. 25.

The 33-year-old Evans has 27 catches for 420 yards and three touchdowns in his first season with San Francisco, according to AP. He is a six-time Pro Bowl selection and topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 NFL seasons, all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, AP reported.

The 49ers were already without receivers Ricky Pearsall, De'Zhaun Stribling, Deebo Samuel, Demarcus Robinson and Christian Kirk, AP reported, adding that Kirk could return as soon as next week.

Linebacker Luke Gifford also left the game with a groin injury and was listed as questionable to return, the team said during the game. Gifford did not return, Shanahan said after the game.
