Audi plans to invest approximately $4 billion in a manufacturing plant at the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County, near Macon, creating approximately 4,500 jobs, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp's office said Saturday.

Kemp's office issued the release with AUDI AG Chief Executive Gernot Döllner. President Donald Trump announced the project at his rally in nearby Perry on Saturday night before the state's release, WGXA reported.

Timeline and capacity

Audi expects to begin grading the site in 2027 and construction in 2028, with full production expected in 2031 at an annual capacity of 200,000 units, according to the governor's release. The plant will build premium SUVs "tailored to North American customers," the release says.

The 1,474-acre site lies along Georgia Highway 96 near Interstate 75, WGXA reported. It was marketed by the Development Authority of Peach County with the Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority, a partnership of Peach, Houston and Macon-Bibb counties, according to the release.

What they said

"We have much greater ambitions for Audi in America, and Georgia will play a central role in making them a reality," Döllner said in the governor's written release. Kemp said in the release that the state "purchased and made more improvements to the Middle Georgia Megasite for just this purpose."

In choosing Georgia, Audi cited speed-to-market, workforce, access to consumer markets and proximity to an established automotive supply chain, the release says.

What is not known

The release did not disclose state or local incentives for the project or specific wage ranges, and WGXA reported that pay ranges were not included in Saturday's announcement.
