Mt. Gox trustee pushes creditor repayment deadline back a year, to Oct. 31, 2027

The trustee overseeing the rehabilitation of collapsed bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox has moved the deadline for repaying its creditors back by one year, from Oct. 31, 2026 to Oct. 31, 2027, Japan time.

"The Rehabilitation Trustee has changed the deadline of the Base Repayment, the Early Lump-Sum Repayment, and the Intermediate Repayment from October 31, 2026 (Japan Time) to October 31, 2027 (Japan Time), respectively," the notice on the Mt. Gox website says.

In a notice dated Oct. 16, 2026, trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi said that, "with the exception of certain types of repayments," he had "largely completed" those repayments for creditors who finished the required procedures and had no problems during the process. But "many rehabilitation creditors still have not received their Repayments because they have not completed the necessary procedures," the notice says. It adds that "a considerable number" have not been repaid "due to various reasons, such as issues arising during the Repayments process."

"As it is desirable to make the Repayments to such rehabilitation creditors to the extent reasonably practicable, the Rehabilitation Trustee, with the permission of the court, has changed the deadline," the notice says.

It is the fourth one-year extension in a row posted on the site. Earlier notices moved the deadline from Oct. 31, 2023 to Oct. 31, 2024, then to Oct. 31, 2025, and then to Oct. 31, 2026.

The notice tells creditors to send questions through the inquiry form in the Mt. Gox online claim filing system. The site separately warns creditors about fake websites and emails pretending to be from Mt. Gox or its trustee.
