A week after a distributor notice said Sturm, Ruger & Co. was halting or winding down 19 product lines, the company has confirmed the Ruger 2030 cuts only through statements its spokesperson gave to firearms publications. As of about 9:10 a.m. ET Tuesday, Ruger had posted no press release in its newsroom, no notice on its investor-relations page and no SEC filing about the changes.
GROKsiNEWS.com reported the suspensions on Oct. 15. This follow-up covers what has been confirmed since then and what has not.
What Ruger has confirmed, and how
Abbey Clary, Ruger's director of media, advertising and public relations, confirmed the changes to American Rifleman, Guns.com, Rifle Configurator and the European site all4shooters. In the statement all4shooters published, she said: "To be clear, we are suspending production of certain products while completing the final planned production runs of others. This does not necessarily mean that these product families are being permanently discontinued."
She said the decisions reflect "consumer demand, evolving market preferences, manufacturing complexity and the long-term profitability of each product family." She added that Ruger expects "some of these names and product families to return in new forms," but has no specific product plans or reintroduction timelines.
Who published the notice
Ruger has not released the distributor notice itself. Rifle Configurator reported that the notice was signed by the "Ruger Sales Team" and reached dealers through distributors on Oct. 13. It said the notice surfaced when Swamp Yankee Arms posted it after receiving it from distributor Lipsey's, and Harvey's Pistol & Pawn, a dealer in Knoxville, Tenn., posted the list on X. The Outdoor Wire and TheGunMag quoted from the notice.
The details on canceled orders and allocation come from those reports of the notice. They do not appear in Clary's public statement.
The model list
Production suspended immediately: the LCR, SP101, GP100 and Bearcat revolver families.
Final production runs through the end of 2026: SR1911, LC Carbine, PC Charger, PC Carbine, LC Charger, Redhawk, Super Redhawk, Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Single-Series revolvers, Vaquero, No. 1, 77-Series rifles, Hawkeye and Ruger Precision Rifle.
Continuing into 2027, according to American Rifleman: the LCP line, RXM, MAX-9, Security-380, Security-9, Ruger 5.7, Mark IV and 22 Charger pistols; the Wrangler and Super Wrangler revolvers; and the American Rifle, American Rimfire, Ruger Precision Rimfire, Harrier, 10/22 and Mini-14 rifles.
Some models remain unclear. Guns.com noted that the Super GP100 was not specifically mentioned. Shooting Sports USA said the status of the GP100 Match Champion, a Ruger Custom Shop model, is unclear. The wording also differs. TheGunMag quoted the notice as saying Ruger expects "many" of the names to return, while Clary's statement says "some."
What it means for dealers and buyers
According to the notice as reported by The Outdoor Wire, all open distributor orders for the four suspended revolvers were canceled. The final-run lines will be allocated to distributors, and orders still unfilled when production ends will be canceled.
Concealedcarry.com and Rifle Configurator both reported that neither the notice nor Ruger's public statements addressed parts or factory service for the affected models.
Company context
Ruger reported second-quarter 2026 net sales of $158.1 million, up 19% from a year earlier. It said cash and short-term investments totaled $117.5 million as of June 27, with no debt. On the July 29 earnings call, President and CEO Todd Seyfert listed among the company's priorities for the rest of 2026 "exiting unprofitable platforms where demand is waning."
Ruger lists its principal executive offices in Mayodan, N.C. It has not said whether the cuts affect any plant or jobs. It also has not announced a date for its third-quarter results. It reported third-quarter 2025 results on Nov. 5, 2025.
Separately, Beretta Holding said its tender offer for up to 2,400,184 Ruger shares at $44.80 each expired one minute after 11:59 p.m. New York City time on Oct. 15. In a final-results release on Oct. 20, Beretta said 6,094,325 shares were validly tendered, the offer was oversubscribed, and the final proration factor was approximately 39.4%, compared with a preliminary estimate of about 38.45%. Beretta said it will beneficially own approximately 25.0% of Ruger's outstanding shares after the offer. Rifle Configurator noted that Ruger's announcement does not mention Beretta and that Seyfert's portfolio plan was public before the tender offer began.
