Former NBA player Malik Beasley intends to plead guilty in federal betting case, court notice says, ABC News reports

Beasley, accused of agreeing to underperform in games while with the Milwaukee Bucks, had pleaded not guilty to four federal counts. No guilty plea has been entered, and the notice did not say what he would plead to.

Former NBA player Malik Beasley intends to plead guilty to federal charges accusing him and five others of taking part in a bribery and betting scheme, according to a court notice filed overnight Saturday, ABC News reported.

Beasley, 29, had previously pleaded not guilty to four federal counts: bribery in sporting contests, wire fraud conspiracy, honest services wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy, ABC News' Aaron Katersky reported. The docket notice did not indicate what Beasley would plead guilty to, according to ABC.

The judge overseeing the case referred a "change of plea" to a federal magistrate judge in Brooklyn, who will schedule a hearing at which Beasley is expected to formally enter a plea, ABC reported.

The allegations

Prosecutors allege Beasley agreed to underperform his statistics during the 2023-24 season, when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks, so gamblers could win their bets, according to ABC. The indictment cites four Bucks games in January, February and March 2024, ABC reported, and prosecutors accused Beasley of accumulating "multi-million dollar gambling losses."

Beasley's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment, ABC said.

What is not known

The court notice itself was not reviewed for this report. No date for a plea hearing had been reported, and it was not known whether a plea agreement has been reached with prosecutors. Beasley has not been convicted of any crime.
