At least 12 people were injured, including six juveniles, in a shooting Saturday night near Florida A&M University's homecoming football game in Tallahassee, the Tallahassee Police Department said.
In a statement updated as of 11:30 p.m., police said the shooting occurred just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets. Preliminary information indicated 11 of the 12 known victims sustained gunshot wounds. Six of the victims are adults and six are juveniles, police said. At least three of the shooting victims sustained serious injuries, while nine others were reported to be in stable condition.
Early findings indicate a physical altercation occurred before the shooting, police said. The department's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating. No deaths were reported in the police statement.
"Tonight, our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they face the devastating impact of this violence," Chief of Police Lawrence Revell said in the statement. "It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured."
Revell later told reporters that no arrests had been made, the Associated Press reported. FAMU said on social media that the shooting happened near its campus and that the campus remained safe, according to AP. Reuters, in a report by Akanksha Khushi in Bengaluru, carried the same police figures of at least 12 injured and 11 shot near Bragg Memorial Stadium.
What is not known
Police have not publicly identified a suspect or said what led to the altercation. The department said information is preliminary and subject to change. GROKsiNEWS.com is not naming any of the juvenile victims.
