Update (Oct. 26, 2026, 1:54 p.m. ET): This story has been updated to report that Tallahassee police arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the shooting. The headline, which previously said no arrests had been made, has been changed.
Tallahassee police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with Saturday night's shooting near Florida A&M University's homecoming football game, which left 12 people injured, including six juveniles. The teen faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent, the Tallahassee Police Department said Monday.
Detectives arrested the teen on Sunday, Oct. 25, and the charges were filed after consultation with State Attorney Jack Campbell, police said. Chief Lawrence Revell announced the arrest at a news conference Monday morning, WCTV reported. The teen appeared in court Monday morning, where a judge ordered that he remain in custody, WCTV reported. He has been charged, not convicted.
Police said detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute between people who knew one another, and that none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets. "While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over," Revell said in the department's statement. The investigation remains open and additional arrests are possible, police said.
Eleven of the 12 people injured were shot, and a 12th person was hurt fleeing the gunfire, police said; WCTV and USA Today reported that person is the grandmother of one of the victims. Six victims remained hospitalized, one of them in critical condition, and five had been released, police said Sunday, according to the BBC. The youngest victim is 11, according to the Tallahassee Democrat and USA Today.
In its initial statement, updated as of 11:30 p.m. Saturday, police said the shooting occurred just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets. Preliminary information indicated 11 of the 12 known victims sustained gunshot wounds. Six of the victims are adults and six are juveniles, police said. At least three of the shooting victims sustained serious injuries, while nine others were reported to be in stable condition.
Early findings indicate a physical altercation occurred before the shooting, police said. The department's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating. No deaths were reported in the police statement.
"Tonight, our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they face the devastating impact of this violence," Chief of Police Lawrence Revell said in the statement. "It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured."
Hours after the shooting, Revell told reporters that no arrests had been made, the Associated Press reported. FAMU said on social media that the shooting happened near its campus and that the campus remained safe, according to AP. Reuters, in a report by Akanksha Khushi in Bengaluru, carried the same police figures of at least 12 injured and 11 shot near Bragg Memorial Stadium.
What is not known
Police have not said what started the altercation or whether anyone else is suspected of firing shots. It is not clear whether the teen will be prosecuted as an adult: WCTV reported, citing officials, that he is being charged as an adult, while USA Today reported that this was unclear. It was not known whether he has an attorney. Police said the information is preliminary and the investigation is active. GROKsiNEWS.com is not naming the 15-year-old, who is a minor, or any of the juvenile victims.
